if i want to be blessed in my life by GOD’s word then i must
reflect on it first by reading it and second by reviewing it and then third by remembering it. james 1.25c (niv), not forgetting what he has heard.
when i was a youth pastor i told my teens that if you memorize
scripture and make it a priority, your g.p.a would improve almost an entire
letter grade. it’s true, it
will….however, nothing will do more for your spiritual life than
developing the habit of memorizing scripture.
nothing will benefit your personal spiritual life more than developing
the habit of memorizing scripture. psalm
119.11 (niv), i have hidden your word in
my heart that i might not sin against YOU. memorize GOD’s word if you want
to be blessed by it. we remember what’s
important to us.
take notes, write things down.
if you value GOD’s word you’re going to take notes on it. hebrews 2.1 (msg) it’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we
don’t drift off.
the united states air force did a study and found that we
forget 95% of what we hear within 72 hours.
this statistic depresses a pastor.
i would spend all week preparing a message to give on sundays and
tuesdays. by wednesday 95% of what i've
said on sundays was forgotten unless it was written down. it was forgotten by friday if they had come on
tuesdays. james says, “receive GOD’s
word with the right attitude, reflect on GOD’s word by reading it, reviewing
it, remembering it.”
just a thought from the front porch…
