we have been looking at the problem of complaining and conquering it. and we have found in the scriptures some examples of different kinds of complainers.
solomon is a great example of the cynic. the cynic loves to say, ''nothing will ever change.''
solomon the writer of the ot book, ecclesiastes in 1.2-4,9 (ms) says, smoke, nothing but smoke. there's nothing to anything - it's all smoke. what's there to show for a lifetime of work, a lifetime of working your fingers to the bone? one generation goes its way, the next one arrives, but nothing changes - it's business as usual for old planet earth. what was will be again, what happened will happen again. there's nothing new on this earth. year after year it's the same old thing.
what a cynical depressing outlook on life. look at this phrase. what was will be again, what happened will happen again.
i'm sure a mother picking up after children could say this. you’ll get it all clean and 20 minutes later it’s back the way it was.
what's the use? i mean i just got this place picked up and… what was will be again, what happened will happen again.
is that you? why even try? it won’t make any difference? nothing will ever change?
listen, we serve the ONE who was resurrected. HE makes changes. HE came to this earth because HE knew HE could make a difference. this is another attitude that we need to be honest about if we have and then we need to conquered it.
just a thought from the front porch...
